RRA at Rawhide Cycle Park

Rawhide Park was jammed with racers last Sunday, the California Racing Club pulled in a couple hundred people for a Motocross battle which was cookin' till around 4:00. Today was also the opening of the new racing program for Mini-Crossers which was held on their own separate track. The Expert turnout was small today compared to last week's $500 big bucks race with the best dicing being seen in the 125 Experts. Honda of Redlands jerseyed Bryan Renshaw was definately the quickest, he ran away with the three motos over the others on his Elsinore with the mid-shock treatment. The last time I saw Rick Stout race was in a high school shoot-out at Corona. He didn't whip everyone today like he did then but he gassed it after Renshaw and led his other competitor Jeff Sanchez who had clutch problems.

Ouch. The sun must have blinded this Hodaka rider, as he stepped off while blasting through a fun corner at Rawhide's CRC MX last Sunday. Corley photo.

One of the most competitive sportsmen races was the 125 Beginner class, this was a completely unpredictable race 'cause each moto some one else would be winning. Half of the class entries were on Suzukis instead of Hondas for a change with 24K Martin Gutierrez (Suz) capturing the first moto. The second moto was goin’ perfect for Rodney Parr who was was dustin' the pack by a straight-away. Then, in agony, he bit the soil which gave the lead to David Houghton who jetted for first over Tom Shaffer and Mark Weida. The final third moto battle was in control of Tom Shaffer who got a taste of winning. Gutierrez was doin' his best in second and had a couple of friends spectating, they would turn their hands and wanted 'em to wick the throttle more. The excellent CRC trophy was slapped into the hands of Tom Shaffer (Suz) who came out on top of Martin Gutierrez (Suz) and David Houghton (Hon).
