With the advent of a new year the old problems still prevail. Ron Bass was seen pushing in his bike, Griswold's still breaking expansion chambers, Sherman Schneller with shock problems, and many still eating dirt. But there were some old riders with new bikes and they rode them to firsts. John Caldwell, of San Luis Obispo, on a Yamaha; Gary Semenza, of Santa Barbara, on a Penton; Randy Benda, of Nipono on a Honda; and Terry Carrell, of Lompoc, on a Suzuki.

The 250 Expert was to prove the best race of the day and the most spectacular. Moto one it was Vince Clark, Bultaco-mounted, of Lompoc, that got unseated while running second. By the time Vince got things together he was near the back of the pack but Vince is not one to run at the rear of any pack, he seemed to gain ground every time you looked at him. Even with the fine recovery Vince only managed a fifth while Tom Bass, of San Luis Obispo, on a Bultaco, took the win.

Moto two it was Jack Keese, of San Luis Obispo, on a Bultaco, who got inter mixed with his bike, it took about four spectators to unmix them, and get him on his way. Vince Clark took the win in moto two with Tom Bass second and enough to take home overall first place money.

In the 125 Experts it was Randy Benda, of Nipomo, on a Honda, for two thirty minute motos who made it look easy. Randy got the lead from start to finish and opened a lead that no one could close. Even Larry Greer, of S.M., on his new Honda got in for the money. I guess it pays to buy a Honda.

Jay Getchel riding his new Number (44G) from the over the hill bunch sported it in good style. He took first place in the Open Intermediates.
