This Saturday at De Anza, 125 Junior Clint Carman (Hon) led the 125 Intermediates a merry chase, and none of them could catch him. On the first lap of the first moto, he came around right behind Intermediate Pete Peterson (Hon) and after another lap had gotten out in front. Peterson tried to stay with him but the pace proved impossible. Intermediate Ron Cain (Suz) worked free of the pack to a point behind Peterson but could advance no further, while all the time Carman was pulling away.
In the next moto, Peterson grabbed the early lead again, but Carman just as easily snatched it back again and disappeared. Cain chased Peterson once more, while the second place Junior, Paul Ivie (YZ) tailed them both after recovering from a crash and a centerpunching in one of the early hairpin turns. The final moto was Carman's from start to finish, and in chasing him, Peterson worked up a sizable lead over the rest of the pack. Cain had been unable to start due to a flat tire, so Ivie was the next one around, once again holding down second place Junior. Gary Cain (Hon) who had been running as third Intermediate previously, was able to pick up enough points to slip in for the second overall.125 Beginner Mark Ellis (Suz) made his final ride as a Beginner a profitable one as he immediately opened up a lead over the rest of the pack. Bob Brammer (Yam) came from back in traffic to finish second after second place Kevin Kards (Hon) pulled off the track to fix something. In the next moto, Brammer had a temporary lead over Kards until Kards slipped past and took it away. Ellis chased them both until he went' down, and then it was all he could do to get back up to third to at least tie Brammer in points. The last moto found Kards again the leader, this time for the majority of the race. Near the end, though, Ellis made his move, slipped past, and captured the overall. Brammer had gotten stuck back in traffic, and when Kards pulled in behind Ellis, it was enough for the second, leaving Brammer the third.
