American Motocross Enterprises held it's second race of the month at De Anza with a rather small turnout but an excellent track. Really, this being my first time at this track and made me unfamiliar with it for good pictures, but the track turned out to be so good, I was kept busy with good photo places all day. It's sort of a Baymare track, lacking the hairy jumps. This is one of the few REAL motocross tracks I've been to.

Russ McAfee did what most Pro rider's wouldn't do when in the heat of heavy competition. Russ took off in the lead in the first 250 Pro class moto with his seat parting company with the bike in the first turn. That didn't stop the Kelsy Alloys Bultaco rider as he received heavy competition from Tobi Taki (Mon), Mike Jenkinson (Hus) and Bill Cook (CZ) among others. Taki put on most of the pressure but his bike wasn't up to the hot day and temporarily seized but he still held second to the end over Jenkinson.

McAfee made darn 'sure that seat wouldn't go anywhere in the second moto and once again took off in the lead with Jenkinson close in second and Taki in third. Jenkinson then made a move on McAfee for the lead and got it for about a half a lap, then McAfee just motored by for the win and the overall victory. Taki had caught up to Jenkinson and passed him for second for the day. Jenkinson took third overall and this is his first Pro race. Mike comes out of the West Cycles shop in Newhall on his factory Husky. Factory? The 500 Pro's decided to cut their payback to only the first two finishers overall.

Don Hicks is one heck of a big rider and when he gets on that big bore Maico he sure can fly like he did out at DeAnza with AME. Hatounian photo.

Mike Sullivan had little trouble in taking the overall today as he got bad starts in both moto's and had to work his way into first, which he did mighty fine. Sullivan and his Bultaco were unbeatable today with NBR ace and AME number one five hundred rider Tom Claire taking second. Third went to Wes Sutton on a Maico.

Suzuki of Van Nuys came out in full force today and walked away with a couple of wins and a second. Johnny Welchel took his Suzuki and blitzed any or all competition for the 100 Junior win.

Bill Ovellette rode his mild looking Suzuki to the overall 125 Junior win with team mate Rob Wate taking second on his Suzuki. Third fell to NBR rider Bobby Burns on yet another Suzuki. What happened to Honda's?

Russ McAfee, minus the aid of his seat, still rode in for first place cash at AME's DeAnza race. Russ is really shaping up to be a good racer. Hatounian photo.

125 Intermediate class win went to Bill Wall on his Whittier Honda. Wall crashed in the first moto but got up and passed everybody to second.

Now here's the Over The Hill Gang results. Junior class went as follows: Limp Larry, Eye sore Ed and Tipsy Tom.

Beginner win went Vamit Vic, Jittery John and Lousy Larry. Amateur win was Rathole Rocky, Corroded Carlos and Raunchy Rob. Experts? Well how-a-bout Absurd Al, Drippy Duane and Gorilla Gary? And I thought my name was wierd.
