Things were really super in tonight's High School Motocross race and this was because nine school teams got in the action. Among those participating were racers from El Modena, El Toro, La Mirada, Canyon, Pacifica, Santiago, Harbor, Esparanza and Anaheim.
A usual CMC MX star Ron Utaski snuffed the Minis and soloed tonight as the only Expert. He even looked fast by his flashy outfit and jetted away from the pack on what was easily the fastest machine on the track. Ray Currie is cleaning up at this track and made tonight his second win for this week. He whipped the Mini Junior class in Thursday's racing which is open to anyone with a valid student body card. One of the only quick Can-Am machines in racing at this track is always sure to be on top of the Powder Puff class. This, of course, is the bike of Sue Kannon who is a favorite of the grandstand spectators, I can remember times when she had jetted away from the guys and has had the people in the stands yelling for her the whole time. The Powder Puff class charged off of the gate at the same time as the Juniors and Sue got some of the better starts each time. She took the first place trophy tonight over Kathy Brobeck on a Elsinore who used to mount on a Mini and Brenda Blevins.
Now the fastest cat of the night was Bill Glore who was also the fastest guy from La Mirada Hi. He stayed glued to the first place spot in his 125 Expert battle which was pretty sensational considering that he had to hold back the big bore machines as well. Most everything went pretty smooth for Bill, I think as he took the win over Tony Moceri and Brad Dutoit. The only bum thing that happened to Glore was in practice when the Whittier Honda racer bashed it out with someone in a crash scene and ended up with a huge monkey bump on his arm. Rick Asch on the No. ION Maico from Canyon Hi was on the warpath behind Bill often and hooked the. 250 Expert win over Jeff Deal of La Mirada and Randy Blevins.
Ken Welford who was always known as Hodaka Bud has long since been off of his ole Hod and is now doing it on a Bike Shop CZ. He was really on it in the first moto of the 250 Junior class for El Modena Hi with the win just to watch his team mate Scott Gillman on an Orange County Cycle YZ jet away for the second moto win. Ken got a bum rap in the final go when he did a mean eat while flying down the first sweeping straight-away. But this did not make it a bum night because he still captured second over Mark Zoller of Esperanza while Gillman was the clean winner.
illman was the clean winner. So with only a couple more races left in the Saturday night Hi School Series things are becoming more crucial for the racers. The "Buco Classic" State Championships will be held on November 30th which will be the day before the Trans-AMA. Everyone in one of the past series races a few weeks, ago should be really be grateful to the Buco Helmet company for turning the winners onto the free helmets and jackets at the trophy presentation.
