S'Back Assoc at Saddleback Park

I guess that everyone was kind of hot and bothered today. I know that I was baked. The only one who had the right idea was this lady that I saw yelling at me while shading herself on one of the trees in the mid of the track. I couldn't tell who it was at first but then I recognized the Tustin Honda jersey, sure enough it was the superfast lady racer Lone Watson!

Bruce Baron was out at Saddleback again this Saturday. He spends so much time there he could almost be called a resident. Corley photo.

Alright now the Yamaha factory had it's fun testing their monos last week so now the regular fast cats could get it on. Spider Man Bruce Baron is really hot out here and no matter what factory racer show up Bruce gives 'em a run for his bucks. One mean eat foiled his racing last week but he dusted everyone today. Now while roosting on the 250 Expert class in which he was entered and all others, Bruce takes time to whips it for the camera. And it's really super to see someone beat the other Pros while showing style over the jumps and while rounding the corners. Jerry Trojnar has come along ways in the past few weeks and this is mainly because he is no longer on a thrashed CZ. Now he races a trick Maico for Competition Cycles and he took a first and a second and placed behind Bruce and on top of Ron Blanto, Scot Gillman, Michael Ruby and Jack Riggi. The 500 Expert class was kind of strange, Mike Yorba and Bob Dunsire were 1-2 in the first moto but both of them DNF'ed in the second motos.

Now not too far behind those guys was haulin' Jeff Clark on a CZ from the Bike Shop which is just down the hill in Orange. I would especially like to mention Clark because today was his first 250 Intermediate win in SAM racing. Also because he says that he has never had a plug nor action shot of him in SCM even though he's reached the Intermaniac stage of racing. But for his win he had to whip Neil Torstenbo (Hon) and Bill Haney on a Maico.

It looks like a look-a-like contest. Everybody has a GP mouth guard, Hallman touring peaks and 125 Elsinores. Sounds like a plan. Corley photo.

Now while I'm into the Intermediate and Experts portion of my story I would like to mention that we have a foreign country racer in SAM racing. I say that not just because he rides on the wrong side of the track but because he comes from Canada i unless he was fooling on the entry form, I-one Watson has put age 52 before while Bruce Baron has put age 4) and this is Gus Cramer. Gus was doing fine with a third in the 500 Intermediate class but was still clobbered by George Wegner of DB MAG and Gregg Parry.

While watching Shannon Bargsten on a trick Maico win the 250 Junior class I was rapping with a racer who usually wins this class. Being jealous that he wasn't on the track and winning the dude said "The only reason why that guy is winning is because he is in first place". I guess that that was a truism, Jim Ball and Rick Rasmusson hooked second and third.

One word of advice to racers who own Dodge vans and who like to stick it in neutral while coasting down from SAD. Be careful never to accidentally move the gear shift into reverse, I was haulin' about 50 while coming down that hill and then all of a sudden I was haulin' back up that hill in 50!
