After several misfortunate weeks of cancelled races due to weather and mud problems the fine SAM High School Motocross sounded off louder and bigger than ever for an excellent race. Just to show you that I'm not jiving you just take a glance at all of the school teams that got in on the action this evening: Mission Viego, Troy, Tustin, Pacifica, Costa Mesa, Bolsa Grande, Sonora, Santa Ana, Magnolia, Ramona, Orange, El Toro and Fountain Valley.
All of those schools had team riders to appear in the overall results so often a spectator would know someone from his school to be leading one of the four big races. But when the program was sum-merized some team had to end up the overall champ and the sano trophy for that award went to Costa Mesa.Dan Skahill and Diane Cross were out at OCIR Saturday night awarding all the goodies to the High Schoolers. Besides the sudden increase in rider appearance the SAM program is really taking new form. One of the sure reasons for this is because a devoted lady by the name of Diane Cross is helping out with the programs at OCIR and with the great high school race in the coming Superbowl of Motocross in July. Diane and the track's fine announcer Dan Skahill got together to make the night's race memorable for the few who were selected at random to win great contingency prizes. Most the prizes that were given out were of racing ap-parell and there should be more and more things to be given out in the up coming races so get in on it every Saturday night.
One of the many hot riders from Bolsa Grande to help put the school close to the top was Steve Sandoz who really got in his fill of racing and winning this weekend. Just Friday he did super in AMC action and tonight he took his Suz 100 to the top spot of the Junior class over Chris Virze on a Reuco? from Sonora. Another to really smoke the competition and also from Bolsa Grande was Lew Saul. Friend Jim Crocker apparently seized Leo's Suz 125 during practice (unintentionally I'm sure) and Lew decided to race in the 250 Beginner class on a Suz 250 for the first time. And guess what? Leo ended up with the win on his first 250 ride over teammate and friend Kevin Walker (Suz) while Doug Cave on a Honda fell into the third place spot for Troy High.
