With everyone away at Hangtown, there was still enough to put on a race at Spillway. The 125cc Expert class was short as Larry Greer and the Sambo's team were gone. Anyhow, Allen Grisworld, of San Luis Obispo, riding a Kawasaki, took first 125 Expert I suppose it's been a long time since a 125 Kawasaki won in the Expert race, but hang on next week when the riders return from Hangtown.

In the 125 Junior class it was Brett Cross, of San Luis Obispo, on a Honda, really turned on the gas and built up a lead no one could touch. Since his move to a larger bike, Brett has been making a good showing for himself. He left the Mini class to Bob Perry of Lompoc. I suppose Brett got tired of chasing Bob around the track. It looks like Brett has them after him. In a field of about twenty good riders, Brett ran off and left them both motos to take home a trophy almost as big as him. We look for Brett Cross to make a good showing each time out now.

Fred Price, of Vandenberg AFB, on a Husky, is still tearing them up. He moved into the local area and has the 250 Juniors at his heels each time out. Fred must keep in shape on the base as there's many good riding areas there. It's been over a year since a good base rider has shown up at Spillway and started taking the first place trophy off.

After the last race David Czerwinski, of Lompoc, on a Montesa, was making it his day. He lead the first moto into the first

And leave them all. Rick Long, on his new Montesa, had his mind on first also and broke out of the pack to chase after David. He stayed on David's rear but could not get around him. Then all of a sudden no Rick. Back tracking around the track there was Rick with a seized up chain. Yes, a seized chain, the damm thing was so tight the wheel would not turn. After hammering the chain off Rick pushed it into the pits while David took the checkered flag. Moto two again it was David in the lead, but Rick had the same idea and Rick got under David in the second turn and took over the lead. Rick gassed it and rode like he wanted to lap the field. David knew a second would still give him first overall so he decided to ride cautiously and collect first place money. But my observation is look out for Rick.
