In the second moto, Nancy Payne got her Maico 125 all sorted out and went wire-to-wire in the lead. She was looking good, second went to Roberta as she stayed on two wheels for the entire moto and Cheryl Acres rode in for a third. Cheryl looked good in both motos as she captured a fourth in her first round. Chelle Blythe grabbed a fourth.

Overall, it was Roberta Vasilis winning for the day with Chelle Blythe second and Cheryl Acres in third. The 125 Novice race was dominated by George Corcoran. George is one of the steadiest riders and when he is riding good, there is nobody faster. He swept both motos today with no trouble. George's bike is prepared by C.H. Industries. Second place went to Ken Krauze with Dennis Beshoe taking third.

Mark Kiel was trying hard, but he had to settle for eighth place in the 250 Novice class at Valley. Kiel photo.

In the 125 Junior division i it used to be Amateurj it was Glenn Ewing riding in for the overall win. His Honda was really singing as he took a first in the second moto and a second in the first. Tom Bice, the FMF'er, rode in for a second overall with a 1-2 finish. Tom also rode in the Open Junior class and did well, too. Ken Bates took third overall with a 3-4 finish.

Steve Miller really demolished the 250 Novice class. He looked like he was much faster than any of the other Novices. New photo.

The 125 Expert bout was dominated by Rod Brand, riding a super quick Honda. He went one and one to sweep both motos with ease. His main competition came from Rick Kehoe, who grabbed a third and a second, riding a Monarch. Mike Garrett rode in for a fifth in the first moto and a third in the second, giving him third overall. Steve Miller swept the 250 Novice class, riding very quickly. He won both motos with Greg Bebeck second. Both ride Maicos.

Allen Cooke took the lead right from the start and never gave it up in the first moto. He was really cooking as he took another overall win at Valley Cycle Park. Kiel photo.

The 250 Juniors were topped by Paul Thede. He won both motos and was riding very well. Second went to Tim Welker with two seconds and Dave Krikac took third with two thirds. Krikac is getting back in shape after his crash, and his Bultaco was really humming. In the Expert end of the 250 race, it was "Crazy" Allen Cooke taking the win today. And he did it in fine form, he didn't crash once. The Bay Area Bultaco rider was moving out fast as he took the overall win. Second place went to Gripster Larry Bird. Larry was really making his Montesa fly as he was going through the pack. Larry is really a good all around rider, and today proved it, as he took home second. Steve Roark was riding great. In fact, he even passed Allen in the last moto only to crash. He is a real strong competitor. P.S. Sorry, he didn't used to be Zahrt's mechanic, just a good friend. But by the way he rides, I think he learned alot from his buddy. He sure is fast.

Steve Roark was really flying high to catch Allen Cooke. He did, but then dropped it and Cooke took the lead back. Kiel photo.

The 500 Expert bout was looking to be a not one as Chuck Lanzarone and John Rice started to battle it out in the first moto. Rice had the lead and Chuck was closing on the Nick Nicholson Greeves rider when Rice lost his chain and Chuck went on by. From there on, Lanzarone had no problem. Chuck Pettigrew worked into second, also on a Maico, with Robin Cersuolo making it into third. Gregg number started in the second row and when the checkered finally dropped, he had worked up to fourth Expert. He was going fast, but his second moto was his down fall when he face shield came off and he lost a half a lap.

Chuck Lanzarone was the man to beat in the 500 Expert class as he rode Maico in for the wins in both motos at Valley Cycle Park. Heidbrink photo.

The second moto found Lanzarone winning again, making it a clean sweep for the Maico rider. Pettigrew took another second, giving him second overall. And Cersuolo made it into third overall.

John Rice was leading the first 500 Expert moto on his Greeves. but he lost a chain for good. Notice the Maico forks. Heidbrink photo.

The day was made even more interesting by John Grout and Al Jackson. The two took over the announcing booth and proceeded to tell all. They made the day much more fun with their expert comentary. John is now working at Valley, so you can expect to hear him every week catling the action.

It's good to hear the races as well as watching them. Next week, Valley has big plans as Trackmasters is running Saturday with a $3 entry for Sportsmen and Sunday AME has a $600 purse. Plus there is a Easter Egg Hunt. So bring the family and have fun.
