The water truck was back with us this week and what a difference it makes. The whole place seemed cooler and the traction was great and the dust low. Dan Skahill, the regular announcer was still on vacation this week, so, "Dyno" Dan Loftus, a member of the Peddle Power Team, took over the announcing job. "Dyano" did a fantastic job. You may very well hear more of his golden voice at Saddleback in the future.

In the 8-year-old final today, there was an exciting race. Western Sports-A-Rama rider, Ronny Ames, got the hole shot and the win, but the big race was for second. David Manning had second throughout the race but hard charging Ricky Ryan would not give up. Going into the haybale turn, Ricky was fotirth. Ryan nailed down third as he slid through the "Punch Bowl" and charged for the finish, it was almost a photo. Ryan passed Manning in the last two inches to take home the second place trophy, leaving Manning to settle for third.

In the 10-year-old class, it was TommyWilson of Whitney Marine first, with Ron Gilbert second and Michael Lindson third. 11-year-old Chris Crandall of Cook Brothers Racing Team took first, and flyin Ryan of Team Saddleback took second, on a borrowed Webco racer, using a set of those new prototype nylon wheels. Pat Stroupe took third.

The Experts were in for a real surprise. The start had been redesigned with a large berm and a new jump. The track change makes it possible for more than one man to come off Bonzi at the same time. This makes it more exciting for both the racers and the spectators. Saddleback's own "great White knuckler". In the Expert racing today, it was Kevin McNeal roosting on the rest of the Experts, with Kawasaki mounted Tinker Juarez second and Lionel Glaspie third.
