395 Cycle Park

WOW! Now if this guy doesn't look like he is going to go over backwards, no body does. This action was captured out at 395 Cycle Park. Jackson photo.

What has two arms, two legs, two wheels, one head covered with stars, stripes circles and names, subsists on a concoction of gasoline and oils, wails like a wounded banshee and is usually covered with layers of mud, dirt, and advertising? If you guessed motocross racers-you are right. And if you guessed 125 of them at 395 Cycle Park on any second or fourth Sunday you were scoring 100 percent. About half of them had the addition of colored ribbons on their helmets to distinguish their hi-school colors to the delight of the record crowd of spectators in this Indian summer in the hi-desert.

The course was run backwards for the first time with the addition of a new jump that separated the men from the boys and a little mud to make the mile more challenging. Randy Scott took his competitors cash to Lancaster in the Pro class while Desert Hodaka of Hesperia wrapped up the most shop points followed by B and B Cycles of Ridgecrest. Norm Sarthou, Richard Hernandez, Kevin LeBure and Billy Norton graduated to Novice with their first place wins in the Beginners class.

Desert Hi-school captured the Race day Hi-School Team trophy by Holiday Honda of Barstow with hi-point leaders Phil Rue and Terry Ducker leading the school to victory. Victorville lead Apple Valley Hi in the second of the three race series for the B and B Yamaha Perpetual trophy led by Hi-point leaders Tyrone Brown and Larry Burns. Eddie Gonzales and Richard Hernandez led Kennedy to the winner's circle over Barstow Hi, led by Honda's Mike Hooper, in the second of their three-race series for the Desert Suzuki Perpetual award.
