A new schedule at Ascot Park has now-moved the S.A.M. Superbowl of Motocross High School motocross qualifiers to Monday nights, and last week a good field of riders were on hand to compete on the 5/8-mile course.

With rain surrounding Ascot Park, the wind came up right before practice, and the rain clouds moved further east.

Another good field of 125cc Junior competitors went at it for three motos with the course in excellent condition due to past rain.

Ascot's Monday night motocross program is the only Monday racing in California, and it is a great opportunity for high school riders to qualifying for the Superbowl on a night when no other associations are competing.

In the 125cc Juniors, Steve Moore of Long Beach Jordan High, who had captured four consecutive overall wins, was once again the favorite with Jim Gallagher of Carson High always tough. In the opening moto, Moore grabbed the lead in a hurry with Gallagher and Nar-bonne High's Rod Davidson, aboard a Kawasaki, in hot pursuit. Moore then held on to win followed by Gallagher, Davidson, and Edgewood's Bob Brammer (Yam).

Gallagher came back strong in the second moto with another fine young rider, Don Miller of Hamilton Junior High in - Long Beach, also in the hunt for the top spot. At starter Bob Pickle's checkered flag, it was Gallagher the winner followed by Moore, Miller, Davidson, and Pete Murillo of Carson. Moore and Gallagher were tied in points going into the final race, and Moore got the jump on the Carson High rider. Steve then pulled away for the overall victory with Gallagher second overall and Davidson third.

Leading the 125cc Junior class in qualifying points for the Superbowl is Rod Davidson of Narbonne High in Harbor City with 318 points. Pete Murillo holds down the second position with 302 followed by Gallagher i291), Marty Smith of Artesia High (280), the injured Don Huizing of South Torrance High (251), and Moore with 250 markers.

David Taylor of Arroyo High in El Monte scored his seventh straight victory in the 125cc Expert division, as the Pasadena Honda rider defeated Vince Van Hook (Hon)and Tom Baugh (Zun).

In other classes, Herbie Shelton captured the 250 Junior with Jim Kawagoye of North Torrance taking the 250 Beginners. Fallbrook's Pat Nash made the trek from San Diego County, and captured the lOOcc Juniors over Doug Martin (Hod) and Jerry Lawson (Hon).
