David Taylor scored his second straight overall win last Saturday at Ascot Park, as he rode to victory in the 125 Expert class in the third high school motocross qualifier. Taylor, who attends El Monte's Arroyo High, rode his Pasadena Honda to the win in all three motos in the 5/8-mile motocross course in the Scholastic Association of Motorsports program.

For Taylor, it was his second consecutive victory in S.A.M. competition, as he easily captured last week's 125 Expert class also. David has yet to lose a moto at Ascot in the high school qualifiers. Franklin's Kelly Owen finished second overall, as he placed in the number two position in all three motos with Vince Van Hook (Hon) third.

One of the better classes of the qualifying competition was the 125 Juniors, as 11 riders went at it for three motos. South Torrance High's Don Huizing placed first overall for the second straight week, as he captured the final two motos after a third place finish in the opening round. Huizing, who rides a Honda, has really showed some excellent improvement since he started riding SAM events last November.

Jim Gallagher, a sophomore at Carson High, captured the first race of the day in the 125 Juniors, but had to settle for second behind Huizing in the last two motos. Gallagher claimed second overall with his schoolmate, Pete Murillo, also from Carson, finishing third overall aboard a Honda as was Gallagher. In the 125 Beginner division, a newcomer really shined in his first appearance at Ascot, as Don Miller rode his Honda to victory in three motos. Miller, who is a ninth-grader at Hamilton Junior High, in Long Beach, completely destroyed his competition as he grabbed the early lead in each moto and ran away and hid from the rest of the field.

Honda-mounted Pat O'Leary, a senior at Narbonne High in Harbor City, finished second in all three motos to take second overall with third going to Monroe High's Jerry Blackburn (Suz).

In the 250 Juniors, Herbie Sheldon, riding a Maico for Torrance Cycle Parts, scored his third victory in three tnes at Ascot, as he once again captured all three motos. Sheldon, who attends South Torrance High, showed his superiority similer to that of Taylor, as Herbie has grabbed the wins in all of the motos he has competed in the last two weeks.

Long Beach Jordan's Dan Swain finished second overall with two thirds and one second place finish aboard his 250 Maico. CZ-mounted Steve Cullinen of Torrance high placed second in the opening two motos but slumped to sixth in the final moto to take third overall.

Last week, the High School motocross was to be on KCOP (Channel 13), but do to some technical difficulties, it will be shown this Saturday morning beginning at 10 AM.
