The sun brought out a big group of riders to Rawhide. Jeff Poland on a big Penton just back from the Trans-Am Put on a show in the 500 Open Expert class, fighting off the determined charges of Jeff Wright, on the Mid-Valley CZ. The Experts had two-thirty minute motos. Wright got the hole shot, but was knocked off in turn three and dropped five spots, and the smooth riding Poland moved up to take the lead and held it all the way. Wright moved up to second but couldn't catch Poland.

In the second moto Wright again got the hole shot and Poland was last with a bad start Wright held Poland off for half the race but there was no holding him back and he took the second rrioto and top money for the day. Wright took second in the class. Jeff Browning took third on a CZ.

There were a big group of 250 Experts, with Richard Franklin on a Yamaha moving up to take the first moto, with Greg Done on another Yamaha pushing hard in a close second spot. The second moto was won by Dana Nelson also on a Yamaha. Franklin took second to get high points for the day against Nelson, who was third in the first moto. Nelson was second overall, Done was third, with Mike Todd coming out for the first time on his new Mid-Valley Ossa and picked up fourth.

Larry Ripley won the first 125 Expert moto on his Honda and had a good lead in the second moto, but they put a little water on the last turns near the end of the race and he slid out and lost two spots, so, Mike Paulsell took the class with two seconds and Ripley had to settle for second, tough break.

There were 26-125 Beginners, and it was a wild affair, but John Reyes kept his head and took a first and second to take the gold Kenny Kaugman was second.

There were also a big group of 23-125 Juniors and Ryan Helzer did the job in that class, with Paul Sanders taking second, all were on Honda's.

The 250 Juniors always raise a lot of dust and put on a good show Wayne Martin showed what he can do, by taking a first and second on his Husky, Brian Rowe tried to get Martin, but ended up with a third and first, and lost out by one point. They changed the course at Rawhide a little and everyone that we talked to like it, there is a little turn before you go up the back hill and it keeps the speed down a little, not so many rocks are thrown in your face.
